For over a decade, each April Autism Speaks kicks off World Autism Month through its signature campaign, Light It Up Blue, in recognition of UN-sanctioned World Autism Awareness Day on April 2.
Since its conception in 2010, and joined by the international autism community, hundreds of thousands of landmarks, buildings, homes and communities around the world Light It Up Blue on April 2 in recognition of people living with autism. In 2017, over 170 countries from all 7 continents participated in spreading awareness. Throughout the rest of April autism-friendly events and educational activities take place to increase understanding and acceptance of people with autism and foster worldwide support.
When we light it up blue, it’s not only about keeping the conversation going about autism but, it’s also making sure that those with autism and their families don’t feel alone.
So on April 2 and throughout World Autism Month, join us in wearing blue, lighting your home or business blue, sharing your story and engaging in the national conversation about autism and have others do the same. Also, don’t forget to take a selfie wearing blue and tag it #LightItUpBlue
