Avoiding the “Twindemic”

Health experts are stressing the importance of getting the flu short this year to avoid the “twin pandemic” of influenza and COVID-19 circulating simultaneously and overwhelming the health system.

According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, for the 2019-2020 flu season Canada ordered 11.2 million doses of the vaccine and this year increased the number of doses ordered by 22% to 13.7 million, the most doses of the vaccine ever ordered by Canada. Last year, 40% of adults and 70% of seniors 65 years of age or older received the flu vaccine, and the Public Health Agency is hoping this year the number will be much higher.

Depending on your area the flu vaccine will be available starting in mid-September to late October. Contact your doctor or local pharmacy to get your flu shot soon!
