Raising Awareness on World Alzheimer’s Day

September is World Alzheimer’s Month and September 21st is World Alzheimer’s Day. This year, the theme of World Alzheimer’s Month is #LetsTalkAboutDementia. Talking about dementia can raise awareness and help to end the stigma associated with dementia.

We had a look through the World Alzheimer’s Month Toolkit and thought we’d share a few interesting facts. Did you know:

  • Every 3 seconds, someone in the world develops dementia

  • Symptoms of dementia aren’t limited to memory loss, they also include: difficulty in finding the right words or understanding what people are saying, difficulty in performing previously routine tasks, as well as personality and mood changes

  • By 2050, it is estimated 152 million people will have dementia

  • You can reduce your risk of dementia through: physical activity, a healthy diet, challenging your brain, social activity and looking after your heart

We encourage you to learn more about dementia this September! #LetsTalkAboutDementia
