May 28th is International Day of Action for Women’s Health

Over 33 years ago, the International Day of Action for Women’s Health was launched to advocate for women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights around the world. Today on May 28th, advocates, activists and international agencies come together to continue to fight for women’s access to universal healthcare, safe contraceptives and safe and legal abortions. This day of action has also focused on many other topics including the feminisation of poverty, women and HIV/AIDS, and violence against women as a global health emergency. The coronavirus pandemic has only increased the urgency and importance of ensuring equitable access to essential sexual and reproductive health and services.

Women from all communities, everywhere, deserve to make decisions about their own bodies, sexualities and health, free from coercion, discrimination and violence.
