Mental Health Awareness Week

#GetLoudabout what mental health really is.

The week of May 6th-12th is Canada’s 68th annual mental health week, an event organized by the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) focused on reducing the stigma surrounding mental illness and promoting good mental health for all Canadians. The core message for 2019 is “Get Loud about what mental health really is.” Canadians are encouraged to participate in mental health awareness week by taking to social media and sharing the hash tag #GetLoud to promote and share what mental health is to them.

What is mental health?

  • 1/5 Canadians suffer from mental illness or addiction…however, 5/5 Canadians have mental health, just like 5/5 have physical health.

  • Diverse evidence from studies done across Canada show that the six most common features of good mental health are:

  • A sense of self

  • A sense of purpose

  • A sense of belonging

  • A sense of contribution

  • A sense of enjoyment

  • A sense of resilience

CMHA has created illustrations to reflect the six common features of good mental health. These visual representatives reflect the “real faces of Canada,” and demonstrate that mental health is a state of well-being whether you have faced mental illness or not.

Lets #GetLoud about what mental health really is, and work together to reduce the stigma of mental illness and promote well-being for all!
