Trump Promises to Repeal Obamacare
Throughout his campaign and since winning the election, Trump has sounded off on many hot-button issues, including healthcare.
For months Trump talked about a 2-4 year “dismantle and delay” approach to Obamacare. Now he wants to repeal the plan and immediately replace it once Tom Price is confirmed as Secretary of Health and Human Services. Republicans in the House and Senate are voicing concerns that Trump has promised the impossible.
Just before his inauguration, Trump put the pharma industry on notice saying, “They are getting away with murder. Pharma has a lot of lobbyists and a lot of power and there is very little bidding. We’re the largest buyer of drugs in the world and yet we don’t bid properly. We’re going to save billions of dollars.”
It’s both an interesting and nervous time for healthcare, and we in Canada would do well to keep an eye peeled to the south. Whichever policies are implemented, there will be fallout, and that fallout will be felt well beyond the US borders.
