Continuing the celebration of our 20th anniversary, in March we looked back on 1998 and 1999. This was a big year for MEDUCOM – we renovated 18 Macdonell Street in downtown Guelph and moved in with five employees. We’ve been there ever since and just last year expanded to another floor.
Not only did MEDUCOM come to downtown Guelph that year, so did the OHL! In 1998 ground was broken on the Sleeman Centre arena, home to our beloved Guelph Storm. To celebrate we headed out for a tour of the Sleeman Brewery.
We all enjoyed learning a bit more about Guelph’s history, especially Sleeman’s “notorious” past. In 1933 the Sleemans were arrested for smuggling beer to Al Capone during prohibition. They lost their licence and wouldn’t brew or sell beer for 50 years. We sure are glad they reopened because we all enjoyed our tour, our samples and a bit of Guelph history!
